A critical leadership role to ensure our production team members are engaged, recognized, trained and the team has what it needs to be successful.  This role requires a strong background in manufacturing process set up, change overs, process troubleshooting, continuous improvement, preventative maintenance (PM), and the ability to successfully communicate to the production members how the work they do every day connects to the company’s mission for a safer, healthier and more productive world.


Our Porex, Richmond (Colonial Heights), VA team is looking for a dependable, problem solver, adaptable, detail oriented, inclusive, growth oriented, coach who can over our daily operations managing our production team.   


As a Production Supervisor (1 of 3 Production Supervisors) this leader is responsible for (including but not limited to):

  • Managing and coaching a production union team of direct reports, including training, strong communications to help the team ‘connect the dots’ of their daily work to the overall mission of the company, performance evaluation, recognition and ensuring that the team is having a great employee experience.
  • The production supervision duties are mostly hands-on and direct in nature and require that substantial time be spent on the plant floor working closely and directly with all shift employees.
  • A partner with HR and other site leadership team members to complete all new hire orientations, while ensuring the new hire feels like they belong to the team.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with all cross functional teams This leader will participate in grievance meetings as necessary and it’s imperative that they maintain a good relationship with the union.
  • Monitor production employee performance and administer corrective action as needed, under guidelines of the collective bargaining agreement and FPT’s handbook and policies. 
  • Ensure machinery is kept in safe and good operating condition.  Issue work orders, as needed, for machinery repair and maintenance
  • Provide feedback to departments as needed (i.e. Purchasing, Engineering)
  • Support ISO within department.
  • Support all Safety and Quality initiatives and be a thought partner in both areas.
  • Responsible for the safety of employees and visitors, the quality of products, efficient utilization of labor, and operation of equipment, technical problem solving, elimination of waste, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensures shift employees are following safe work practices and procedures consistently and completely. Audits for compliance and addresses safety issues in a timely manner.
  • Production schedule sequencing & adherence



Education: AS/BS degree in Science, Operations/Supply Chain, Engineering or Business; preferred HS diploma is required. 


  • Minimum of 5 years of successful production supervision experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with the willingness and ability to learn new systems.
  • Resourceful problem solver with proven ability to bring quick resolution to challenging situations.
  • Team player with ability to build lasting productive business relationships with hourly employees, management, and peers.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, customers or suppliers.
  • Proven success in production schedule sequencing & adherence.
  • Must possesses excellent mechanical and technical production skills.
  • Must have a proven record of good safety practices for self and team.
  • Must have the aptitude to exercise the 80/20 principle and coach the production team around it with SQDICP key results and expectations in mind.    Ability to work a shift schedule is required, since we are a 24/7 manufacturing facility.
