Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Device Development Scientist to join one of our fastest growing business segments, Porex Life Sciences Institute (PLSI), a Medical Device Manufacturer who is focused on developing medical devices for various applications.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Responsible for the execution of R&D projects, from concept to finish, by utilizing scientific and engineering principles relevant to the Porex Life Science Institute (PLSI). 
  • Support identifying and developing new technologies to advance the capabilities of PLSI products. 
  • Interface with various stakeholders including customers and PLSI team members across multiple functions (Marketing, Sales, Business Development, Quality, Operations, etc..). 
  • Help develop the strategic roadmap for device functionality and be responsible to develop and execute testing to validate relevant marketing claims to support device commercialization.  
  • Liaise with and develop partnerships with outside testing facilities, universities, and interested collaborators to advance the fundamental science associated with the device.

This role will rely heavily on world-class analytical capabilities and business acumen coupled with an ability to quickly develop and help implement identified improvement opportunities. We expect this role to have a continuous improvement mindset and to help drive this culture throughout the organization.

 

Key Attributes

The ideal candidate will be a creative problem solver with an intellectual curiosity coupled with a strong desire for on-going learning and development.  They will possess a master’s or doctoral degree in Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Engineering, with 3+ years’ experience in industry in medical device development and/or clinical laboratory.

They will also be capable of quickly establishing credibility, influencing decision makers, and persuading professionals at all levels. A key attribute will be an organizational development expert who transforms strategy into operational goals and objectives, achieves desired outcomes, and effectively leads people through change.  Candidates should be able to highlight their IMPACT as a leader throughout their organization(s) and able to thrive in a fast-paced and result- oriented environment. 

 

 

 Additional Deliverables:

  • Help create project plans and develop milestones based on customer needs and problems to solve.
  • Design and conduct experiments, analyze and present data, create project reports and presentations for executive updates.
  • Design and conduct experiments to validate claims in support of marketing efforts.
  • Provide input into claim development based on scientific knowledge and independent research.
  • Provide input into technical roadmap based on scientific knowledge and independent research.
  • Provide technical support to commercial team before, during, and after customer conversations.
  • Complete independent research to support development or integration of new device capabilities.
  • Design and conduct experiments to support development of new device capabilities.
  • Manage and mentor R&D Co-ops.
  • Publish technical bulletins and white papers within the organization and at external forums.
  • Travel based on project needs (e.g., to Porex facilities, conferences, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Core Competencies

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

 

Education and Experience

  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Engineering.
  • 3+ years in Industry in medical device development and/or clinical laboratory.
  • Previous experience as Lab Manager and Lab and/or Engineering R&D role strongly preferred.
  • Well versed in basic principles for product design & prototyping using Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, and/or Bioengineering principles.
  • Knowledge of coating, surface modification and analysis.
  • Knowledge of techniques such as FTIR, NMR, DSC, SEM, HPLC, XPS and other analytical tools.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology instrumentation and protocols such as LAMP, PCR, Genetic Sequencing, etc.
  • Knowledge of statistical software such as MiniTab preferred.
  • Knowledge of project-based material/product development, ability to work as a project leader/facilitator.
  • Preferred knowledge and understanding of Innovation Processes from Ideation to Project execution.
  • Preferred experience working with Sales/marketing to capture value proposition & customer requirements.
