Porex is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated candidate for the position of Life Sciences Sales Engineer.  This is a remote position.  This role will act as a bridge between our external customers and internal team members and is seated in the fastest growing segment of the business. This stakeholder manager will be responsible for developing new business within the segment, executing the current pipeline of opportunities, and accelerating Porex’s customer success rate for the Life Science Market. Coupled with this role, the Sales Engineer will gain exposure to cutting edge medical applications with opportunity for growth in both technical and commercial expertise.

As part of this unique role, the candidate will develop positive relationships with target customers, bridging internal team requests and managing opportunity assessment through to closure. Possessing a keen technical eye, they will perform both technical feasibility and commercial reviews, developing action plans that will address the client requests.

About the Role:

  1. Connect to our customer’s needs: understand the customer’s commercial goals and technical constraints, asking strategic questions to determine market opportunity, technical requirements and opportunities for problem solving. Prepare and deliver technical and commercial presentations, explaining products, services, and unique selling points to existing and prospective customers
  2. Provide technical guidance: Develop deep understanding of Porex technology in order to perform technical qualification, technology evaluation, oversee project priorities and support the project justification for selection of opportunities. Lead technical communication and collaboration with Customers during all sales and project phases.
  3. Generate new opportunity: Develop new accounts by identifying potential customers and creating a sales plan which focuses on understanding the customer need and developing that need into an opportunity.
  4. Organize Data: Use a keen attention to detail to maintain customer records, prepare price estimates, study all related customer documents, and suggest technical recommendations in tandem with Engineering team
  5. Liaise Internally: Consult with engineers, marketing, and other functions to move project stage gates forward. Collaborate with Product Development Engineers to coordinate samples, prototypes, and trial production runs.
  6. Champion our Value: Gain customer acceptance by explaining or demonstrating product benefits which creates value for the customer. Develop close contact with the Customer for better dialogue and success.
  7. Efficiently Monitor: Increase the speed and thoroughness of the opportunity qualification process and deliverables to the customer. Improve the project risk understanding, account for the risks, plan ahead and deliver multiple options to the customer to overcome project constraints.
  8. Support and Deliver: Provide direct technical support to the Customer leading to best solution outcomes and project success. Give preliminary advice and alternative suggestions to align customer specifications with Porex capabilities. Deliver to budgeted quarterly and yearly goals



Bachelor’s degree with focus on Engineering, Material Science, or other related field



Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience in Product Development, Applications Engineering, Technical Sales or related role. Understanding of healthcare markets, medical applications, Supplier-OEM relationship and product development stage gates. Significant experience with cross-functional interaction with product development, sales, marketing, and manufacturing operations.


Experience working in a lab and/or manufacturing environment and a basic understanding of biochemistry strongly preferred, but not required.

  11. Must be a logical thinker, organized with outstanding time-management skills.
  12. Strong initiative with the ability to prioritize, set personal goals and work autonomously.
  13. Exhibit strong leadership skills with motivation and drive to succeed.
  14. Excellent verbal, analytical and written skills.
  15. Knowledge of effective problem-solving, continuous improvement, and quality principles tools and practices.

  17. Adept at using technology for effective management of responsibility: Internet, Microsoft Office Suite,, etc.


Travel:  Up to 25% including flying to attend customer meetings and trade shows.
