The Plant Manager is responsible for the effective operation and continuous improvement of the entire Joliet IL facility and collaborates closely with 3 other plants in the US and Mexico. This position will help grow the business by providing quality and lead times that win and retain customers as well as overseeing the scale up of new products, new customers, and new technologies. This position is accountable for improvements in safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity. 

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the full scope of operations within the manufacturing facility. Areas of responsibility include Production, Planning, Materials, Shipping, Quality, Safety and Environment, and Maintenance.
  • The current size of the facility is 165,000 sq. ft. and 130 people.
  • Responsible for the development and achievement of the annual operating plan and budget.
  • Advance Lean manufacturing concepts to create a culture of customer focus, continuous improvement and shorten lead times.
  • Significantly improve 5S in Plant and Office areas
  • Implement a repeatable process for monitoring and improving safety.
  • Fully implement the system of Hourly/Daily/Weekly/Monthly SQDIP management
  • Develop a Kaizen opportunity funnel and eventually hold 1-2 significant Kaizen events each month.
  • Further move the value streams to single piece cellular flow and standard work
  • Ensure all new part numbers of existing product families and new products make it to the floor in a systematic fashion such that all specifications, processes, work instructions and materials meet quality, lead time and cost objectives.
  • Create a culture of Trust, Bias for Action, and Entrepreneurial spirits at facility, between direct leadership team and hourly teams.
  • Recruit, assess and develop an operations team to have a “can do” attitude and the skills, competencies, and drive to achieve world class levels of performance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience with Lean Manufacturing.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a Plant Manager role.
  • Consideration for other education and industry experience will be given.
  • Leadership approach that gathers input, develops people, and utilizes a systematic approach to achieve objectives.
  • Strong financial/cost accounting acumen
  • Desire and ability to collaborate cross functionally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual - Able to comfortably speak and understand Spanish
  • Bachelor’s degree Engineering, Science or Operations combined with an MBA.
