Responsibilities

Materials Manager

 

Strategic Procurement and Supplier Management: Develop and implement purchasing strategies that leverage VAVE to achieve cost reduction while maintaining product quality. Manage relationships with suppliers, ensuring compliance with material and design qualification requirements for applications in the aviation, military, and power generation sectors. Oversee the qualification of new suppliers and materials, ensuring adherence to strict customer and regulatory standards.

  • Demand Planning and Forecasting: Lead Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) efforts to align production needs with inventory availability, ensuring smooth operations across both capital and aftermarket product lines. Utilize Plan for Every Part (PFEP) to manage materials, ensuring that each component is available in the right quantities and locations.
  • Inventory and Warehouse Management: Implement Kanban and Pull Systems to optimize inventory flow, reduce waste, and ensure efficient material handling. Oversee all warehousing operations, ensuring accurate inventory tracking, storage optimization, and timely availability of materials for production.
  • Supply Chain Performance: Monitor supplier performance using key metrics such as on-time delivery, lead times, and cost efficiency, driving continuous improvement through strategic negotiations and partnerships. Manage shipping and receiving operations, ensuring smooth logistics and adherence to customer delivery schedules and quality expectations.
  • Continuous Improvement and Lean Initiatives: Lead Kaizen events and continuous improvement efforts across supply chain processes, using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs. Drive the implementation of VAVE to ensure the value of materials and components aligns with design and customer requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure material availability and alignment with design and customer specifications. Coordinate with finance to ensure procurement strategies align with budgetary goals and cost-saving initiatives.

Qualifications

Materials Manger

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field. Certifications like CPIM, CSCP, or Lean Six Sigma preferred.
  • Experience: At least 7 years of experience in materials management within a manufacturing environment, preferably involving capital equipment and aftermarket operations.
  • Skills Proficiency with PFEP, Kanban, Pull Systems, and SIOP. Expertise in strategic procurement and supplier management, with experience in military and aviation markets. Strong leadership and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and supplier negotiations. Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory management software.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex supply chains across multiple locations, with a strategic mindset for demand forecasting and procurement. They should be highly skilled in implementing Lean manufacturing principles and optimizing supply chain performance through tools like PFEP and SIOP. Experience in industries with stringent quality standards (e.g., military and aviation) will be highly valued, particularly in managing supplier qualifications and VAVE initiatives.
