Overview

The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse and shipping operations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in order processing, shipping, and inventory management. This role provides direct supervision to the warehouse team, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and fostering an efficient and organized warehouse environment. Additionally, the position plays a key role in coordinating with internal departments and external logistics partners to maintain optimal shipping and warehouse performance.

Responsibilities

  • Team Supervision & Development:
    • Lead and mentor warehouse team members, with a focus on fostering a positive, high-performing environment in a unionized setting.
    • Work within union guidelines to promote effective communication, teamwork, and resolve any conflicts or grievances professionally and constructively.
    • Ensure team accountability by setting clear expectations, conducting performance evaluations, and addressing attendance, productivity, and quality standards.
    • Oversee training and cross-training efforts to enhance team members' skills in warehouse processes, safety practices, and equipment operation.
    • Collaborate with HR and union representatives to manage disciplinary actions, coaching, and performance improvement plans as necessary, ensuring adherence to contract guidelines and policies.
  • Order Fulfillment & Shipping Oversight:
    • Ensure accurate and timely fulfillment of customer orders by overseeing the scheduling, packing, and shipping processes.
    • Review and approve all shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, and shipping labels, to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
    • Collaborate with transportation providers to schedule pickups, resolve issues, and negotiate rates where applicable.
  • Inventory Control & Warehouse Organization:
    • Supervise inventory management processes, including regular cycle counts and reconciliation, to ensure accuracy.
    • Develop and enforce inventory control practices to minimize losses and optimize storage space.
    • Maintain an organized and efficient warehouse layout, ensuring adherence to 5S principles and company housekeeping standards.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination:
    • Act as a liaison between shipping, production, sales, and customer service teams to ensure clear communication of shipping schedules and any order changes.
    • Address customer inquiries and coordinate with internal departments and external partners to resolve shipment issues quickly.
    • Communicate shipping metrics, updates, and concerns to management.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce safety protocols, including proper equipment use, personal protective equipment, and adherence to OSHA and company-specific safety regulations.
    • Ensure that all team members are trained on and comply with safety and environmental policies.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain detailed and accurate records for all shipping activities, inventory counts, and warehouse performance metrics.
    • Provide regular reports to management, highlighting key performance indicators, potential areas of improvement, and safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 4-5 years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or logistics role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead position.
    • Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and ERP systems preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proven leadership and team development abilities.
    • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
    • Excellent communication skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams and external partners.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and inventory management software.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment and capable of operating material handling equipment.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
  • Familiarity with international shipping regulations and compliance requirements.
