Overview

Coordinate the daily lab activities. Provide effective communication and coordination with all other departments. Assist Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance Group Leader in the development, installation and operation of activities concerned with the inspection and testing of raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods and calibration.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensures that safe practices and procedures are consistently followed by all personnel and that all work areas are maintained in a safe, clean and orderly manner.  Provides leadership to the safety program.  Performs and/or participates in accident investigations and Hazard Assessments.
  2. Commitment to Total Quality Leadership (TQL) through implementation of the Quality Policy and participation in, or support of, teams and work groups.  Understand and comply with all applicable requirements of the Company’s ISO/TS/cGMP quality system as documented in the Quality Manual, System Procedures, and Work Instructions.
  3. Prioritize and coordinate quality laboratory activities to assure routine and special testing, calibration, customer return evaluation, and COAs/COCs are done on time to meet requirements and per established procedures.
  4. Provide coordination with other departments for QA laboratory activities in supporting on-time defect free product to customer and to help assure incoming materials meet specified requirements and are available when needed for the production of product.
  5. Lead Quality Technician Team in problem solving and improving inspection and testing activities and the Quality Assurance Lab.
  6. Perform quality assurance laboratory tests, calibration, COCs/COAs, interprets results and makes recommendations for improvements, as required.
  7. Provide written and oral communications concerning the conformance to and deviations from prescribed specifications.
  8. Train QA technicians in proper inspection and test techniques for raw materials, finished goods and product returned on RMA and ensure training records are current.
  9. Coordinate organization and maintenance of the filing for QA laboratory records.
  10. Provide support to suppliers and/or customers, as required.
  11. Participate in internal and external audits and problem solving, as required.
  12. Identify and recommend improvements in quality assurance activities and support improvements in other departments.
  13. Track and report on QA laboratory activities and performance to Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance Group Leader.
  14. Keep all personnel informed of their performance and assist in their development through

timely, objective and meaningful performance evaluations.

  1. Maintain department facilities and equipment in an efficient, orderly, clean and safe operating condition.
  2. Maintain QA laboratory/inspection process metrics.
  3. Responsible for effective use of resources, time, materials and equipment.
  4. Assure lab equipment and supplies are properly maintained and make recommendations for improvement.
  5. Control the discipline, conduct and attendance of QA employees, according to Company policies and procedures, to maximize the contribution of each.
  6. Assist in reviewing personnel requirements for the department, selecting, hiring, training and terminating employees as necessary, according to Company policies and procedures.
  7. Approve vacation and leave of absence requests within the department.
  8. Prepare Leadership Plans that complement and support the Regulatory Affairs &Quality Assurance Group Leader and parallel functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in technical area and Certified Quality Technician (preferred)
  • 5-7 years in a QA function in a related industry  and 3-5 year supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and direct laboratory activities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with measuring devices such as calipers, scales, pH meters, hydrometers and tensile testers; familiar with calibration
  • Knowledge of acidity, alkalinity and solution preparation
  • Ability to conduct sampling from heavy drums or boxes of product
  • Familiarity with inspection sampling plans and Acceptable Quality Limits (AQL)
  • Ability to write meaningful reports and analysis of tests and inspections; strong PC skills; Good analytical and mathematical skills
  • Good presentation and/or training skills
  • Strong team player; demonstrated leadership skills; strong organizational skills
