Overview

Porex is seeking a Materials Engineer to drive innovation in porous materials, supporting both new product development and scale-up manufacturing. This role is pivotal in enhancing material performance, optimizing production processes, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise in polymer chemistry, material characterization, and non woven processes, translating R&D advancements into commercial success.
 
This position requires a balance of hands-on lab work, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and external partners. With a focus on analytical characterization, process efficiency, and cost optimization, the Materials Engineer will play a key role in advancing Porex’s porous technologies while working closely with industry leaders in diagnostics, personal care, and industrial applications.
 
As part of the innovation team, the Materials Engineer will be instrumental in bridging the gap between laboratory innovation and large-scale production, ensuring seamless integration of new materials into manufacturing workflows. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, collaborate with industry-leading customers, and contribute to the development of high-performance filtration solutions that meet the evolving demands of the market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analytical characterization and material performance evaluations for Nonwoven products and advanced filtration materials.
  • Support scale-up manufacturing by bridging the gap between R&D, pilot production, and full-scale commercialization.
  • Work closely with customers and internal teams to develop and tailor membranes to meet specific flow, porosity, and compatibility requirements
  • Conduct data analysis and interpretation for product testing, material validation, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Process Engineering, and Production) to ensure product performance and manufacturability.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including bio-compatibility testing (Cyto, Endo, Hemo-compatibility), USP VI etc
  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives in material selection and process efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in membrane and media development technology, polymer processing, or porous materials development.
  • Strong expertise in nonwoven processes, polymer chemistry, and material characterization.
  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as SEM, FTIR, DSC, TGA, rheology, and porosity measurement.
  • Experience in scale-up from lab to manufacturing and working in a cross-functional development environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards, quality control protocols, and regulatory compliance in materials and filtration.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to analyze complex data, and propose innovative solutions.
  • Excellent coomunication skills, with the ability to work closely with internal teams and external customers.
