Responsibilities

Duties include all those associated with the Maintenance Technician I position, plus a minimum of the following:

  • Use basic machinist skills and other hand tools of the trade to fabricate parts, not commercially available.
  • Use basic mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system skills as required to perform troubleshooting, diagnostic, adjustment, and repair tasks.
  • Assist other Maintenance Technicians perform troubleshooting and minor repair tasks on plant fire prevention and sprinkler systems.
  • Install, repair, and maintain communication and power distribution cables, and splice as required.
  • Respond to Maintenance Service Requests to include HVAC equipment and assist other Maintenance Technicians to complete necessary adjustments and repairs.
  • Document work orders using CMMS program, including parts used, time expended, and other pertinent data.

There are NO supervisory responsibilities for this position.

Qualifications

Required Skills

The minimum qualifications required include, but may not be limited to the following:

 

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing machinery maintenance environment
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment and machinery and the tools, gauges, meters, and diagnostic equipment used in that environment.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficient knowledge of blueprints required.
  • Familiarity with CMMS software system is a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions as well as procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to convert to metric and standard weights and measures.
  • Ability to read measuring devices.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Forklift operation with the ability to pass an in-house certification, clean driving record a plus.

Education and/or Experience

  •  High School Diploma and/or GED.
  • Related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Work from elevated platforms, ladders and/or manlifts.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes of airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.  The duties of this job may be performed in non-controlled temperature environments and in an area of moderate to high noise levels.  If the duties are required to be performed in the shop areas, the employee may be exposed to harmful light emitted by welding machinery and flying metal particles.

  • Adhere to all Safety guidelines.
  • Immediately report all safety issues including injuries, unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and near miss situations.
  • Review PPE Hazard Assessment Certification Form for safety requirements.
  • Pre-Shift Stretching.
