Responsibilities

Capital Engineering Manager

Position Overview: The Capital Equipment Engineering and Operations Manager leads all engineering and operational activities involved in fulfilling orders for capital equipment, including engineered-to-order, made-to-order, configured-to-order, and made-to-stock filtration systems. This critical role oversees the Project Engineering, Drafting/Design, Subfabrication, and Final Assembly departments, ensuring seamless coordination, timely delivery, and strict adherence to quality and compliance standards, including ASME code pressure vessels.

The position includes oversight of domestic US production as well as subfabrication suppliers located in North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific, ensuring consistent performance and quality on a global scale. This role requires a strategic mindset combined with a hands-on approach to daily execution, balancing long-term planning with real-time decision-making to ensure technical, cost, and delivery success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Cross-Functional Coordination: Lead multidisciplinary teams including Project Engineering, Drafting/Design, Subfabrication, and Final Assembly. Ensure effective coordination between engineering and manufacturing teams across various order types (engineered-to-order, made-to-order, configured-to-order, made-to-stock). Manage relationships with global subfabrication suppliers to ensure consistent quality, compliance, and timely delivery. Coach and develop department leaders; establish KPIs and conduct performance reviews to foster a high-performance, accountable team culture.

  • Project and Engineering Management: Direct engineering activities from project inception to final delivery, ensuring accurate design execution, ASME compliance, documentation control, and cost management. Implement standardized project management practices across the capital equipment lifecycle, tracking scope, budget, timeline, and risk. Ensure consistent application of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and drive Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to optimize cost, yield, and assembly time. Interface with sales, customers, and technical teams to manage technical inquiries, clarifications, and change orders. Engage directly with customers on technical project reviews, milestone validations, and post-shipment support coordination when required.

  • Operations and Manufacturing Oversight: Actively manage subfabrication projects through direct oversight of supplier execution, with regular status and progress reviews to ensure accountability. Establish and enforce clear project milestones and deliverables for subfabricators, accounting for their capacity, workload, and performance trends. Collaborate with suppliers to improve their internal project management practices, ensuring alignment with production timelines and quality expectations. Lead development of key subfabrication partners to elevate capability, capacity, and responsiveness in line with program needs. Oversee subfabrication suppliers in North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific, ensuring adherence to specifications, schedules, quality, and cost standards. Supervise final assembly operations, ensuring effective integration and testing of capital equipment systems. Leverage project management tools and standardized processes to manage multi-site subfabrication networks with accountability to PMO goals. Ensure the global supply chain aligns with and supports production and customer delivery requirements.

  • Process Improvement, Quality, and Compliance: Drive Lean Manufacturing initiatives, process standardization, and continuous improvement across all manufacturing and engineering operations. Collaborate with Quality team to embed ISO 9001 compliance, incident tracking, and formal root-cause/corrective action protocols. Drive accountability for project and unit-level cost performance, identifying opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and control margin erosion. Monitor and improve key operational metrics including schedule adherence, project cost, manufacturing efficiency, and product quality.
