Overview

We are seeking a motivated engineering student to join our design team as a Coop in Piping & Instrumentation (P&ID) Drafting. The role provides handson experience with the creation, revision, and management of P&IDs and wiring diagrams using industrystandard CAD tools. The successful candidate will learn to interpret existing piping networks, produce “asbuilt” documentation, and support engineering change processes.

Responsibilities

  • Learn & Apply P&ID Fundamentals
    • Study basic symbols, line types, and conventions used in piping and instrumentation diagrams.
    • Attend short training sessions and review company standards.
  • Asset Identification & AsBuilt Transcription
    • Walkthrough plant sites to locate valves, pumps, instruments, and other assets.
    • Accurately capture field data and translate it into “asbuilt” P&IDs.
  • CAD Drafting & Document Packages
    • Use SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD software) to develop professionalgrade P&ID sets.
    • Organize drawing files, title blocks, and revision logs into complete document packages ready for review.
  • Engineering Redline Management
    • Receive redline markings from senior engineers.
    • Implement changes in the CAD files, ensuring all modifications are reflected consistently across related drawings.
  • Wiring Diagram Production
    • Generate electrical wiring diagrams that depict current equipment and proposed new installations.
    • Coordinate with the electrical engineering team to confirm equipment ratings, conduit routing, and control logic.
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Perform selfchecks for symbol accuracy, line continuity, and compliance with internal drafting standards and relevant codes (e.g., ASME, IEC).
    • Assist in crossdisciplinary reviews and incorporate feedback promptly
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain a log of work performed, hours spent on each drawing, and any issues encountered.
    • Prepare brief status updates for the supervising engineer.
